Denver Design Week: 5 Sessions Not-to-Be-Missed

Whether we realize it or not design impacts each aspect of our lives. From flatware to furnishings, clocks to toothpicks, every ‘thing’ we interact with has been considered by a designer to address or solve a problem. While some design is good, great design can take you places. In the words of Dieter Rams, “Good design is making something intelligible and memorable. Great design is making something memorable and meaningful.” July 8-15th great design takes over our Queen City of the Plains. Denver Design Week is an eight-day showcase that celebrates and elevates design in our community. Read below for a list of 5 sessions not-to-be-missed.

Shifting Gears: Design and the Driverless Car Revolution-

Rutt Bridges, founder of Colorado’s Bighorn Center for Public Policy, expert in the field of disruptive innovation and author of Driverless Car Revolution, will lead attendees through a discussion surrounding the often-polarizing topic of Driverless Cars. We will navigate the fears and challenges that this new technology brings while examining positive outcomes, like cost savings, personal freedom and the potential for redefining our travel environment.

The New Kitchen Consumer: How User Experience Has Changed the Most Important Room in the House-

Kitchens have grown to become the center of the modern American home, “Now more than ever, the kitchen is a theatre in which the acts of food preparation, cooking and sharing become a connective collaboration of families and friends”. A panel of presenters will discuss how architecture and product design have become essential in the minds of consumers when considering what to buy. This session will also examine the demands placed on kitchen designers as they navigate the challenge of crafting a space that integrates more directly with the home it serves.

Zeitgeist in Modern Design: Tapping into the Spirit of an Era-

Zeitgeist is defined as “the defining spirit or mood of a particular period of history as shown by the ideas and beliefs of the time.” Mike Moore, architect and founder of Denver’s own Tres Birds Workshop will discuss how movements in art and culture are brought to life, and how unconnected individuals create work with common vision and intention. Moore will also examine how this cultural phenomenon may influence the future of innovation in successful design and development.

Tapping into Design: The Craft of Brewery Branding and Identity-

A panel of Denver’s craft beer insiders including Brandon Proff (Our Mutual Friend Brewing) and Brian O’Connell (Renegade Brewing Company), will discuss how in a state saturated with breweries, design offers an opportunity to differentiate and build customer loyalty. The session will show any small business owner how to develop an original brand that best reflects a product or service and how design can help to build your bottom line.
